Jake Wahlin, a forward for the Clemson men’s basketball team, entered the transfer portal on March 29. Wahlin started 29 of 35 games this season and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Wahlin’s decision to transfer comes after a season where his performance saw a decline compared to his previous year at Utah. At Utah, he shot nearly 47 percent from the field and averaged over six points per game. However, during his time at Clemson, those numbers dropped to just over 40 percent shooting with fewer minutes and touches on the court.
The latter part of the season was particularly challenging for Wahlin. He did not score in eight games—including four of his last seven—and finished with three points or fewer in each of his final six appearances. In Clemson’s NCAA Tournament loss to Iowa, he went scoreless in sixteen minutes on four attempts.
Despite these struggles, Wahlin had some strong performances earlier in the year. He scored fourteen points against Morehead State and recorded double-digit scoring efforts against Cal and Alabama. Over the course of the season, he collected 136 rebounds and was named CSC Academic All-District alongside teammate Blake Davidson.
Wahlin previously played at Timpview High School as a consensus three-star recruit before serving a two-year LDS mission in Lithuania. He will turn twenty-three before next season begins, offering potential programs an experienced player who can contribute when performing well.
With Wahlin’s departure opening up a roster spot for head coach Brad Brownell, further changes may be expected as Clemson looks ahead following its twenty-five win campaign.
