The Clemson Tigers defeated the Winthrop Eagles 7-3 on March 10 at McWhorter Stadium, improving their season record to 17-7. Sophomore Corri Hicks led the offense with a three-run home run in the first inning and finished with four runs batted in. Junior Sierra Maness earned her ninth win of the year as pitcher.

The game was significant for Clemson as it continued their strong performance this season and maintained momentum heading into upcoming conference play. Hicks also contributed a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, while Julia Knowler added two runs batted in. Freshman Mac Pavese and senior Jamison Brockenbrough each recorded two hits, with Pavese scoring twice.

Winthrop took an early lead after Darrah Nickens reached base on an error, allowing a runner to score from third. Clemson responded quickly, with Brockenbrough scoring on an RBI single by Knowler before Hicks hit her fifth home run of the year to give Clemson a 4-1 advantage. The Eagles narrowed the gap by scoring two runs in the third inning, but Clemson extended its lead again in the fourth through contributions from Channell, Pavese, Collins, and Knowler.

In the sixth inning, Pavese singled and later scored on another sacrifice fly by Hicks to make it 7-3. The Tigers’ pitching staff included freshman Keira Crosby making her fifth start of the year and recording one strikeout over two innings. Lexie Hames followed with two strikeouts over 1.2 innings before Maness closed out the final 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.

Looking ahead, Clemson will finish its homestand with a three-game series against Louisville from March 13 to March 15. Friday’s game is set for 4 p.m., while Saturday’s contest will be held at 1 p.m. as part of Alumni Day.
