The Clemson Tigers women’s tennis team defeated Florida State 4-2 on March 27 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The victory brings Clemson’s record to 15-4 overall and 5-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Florida State drops to 4-13 and remains winless in conference matches.
The match was closely contested, with doubles play setting the early tone. Artemis Aslanisvili and Sophie Clayton lost their doubles match on court three, giving Florida State an initial lead. However, Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki evened the score with a win on court one. The doubles point ultimately went to Florida State after Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Romana Cisovska fell on court two.
In singles competition, Neilson-Gatenby secured Clemson’s first singles point with a straight-set victory over Kristyna Lavickova. Okuwaki followed with another win for the Tigers, maintaining her undefeated record in singles this season. After Cisovska lost her singles match to Tina Li, Ria Bhakta put Clemson ahead again by defeating Cade Cricchio. Aslanisvili clinched the overall team victory for Clemson by winning her three-set match against Abby Kelliher.
At the time of clinch, M.B. Deatherage was leading Groen in an unfinished match that was abandoned after Clemson secured enough points for the team win.
Clemson will next face No. 32 Miami at home on Sunday, March 29 at noon. Before that match begins, seniors Romana Cisovska and Jade Groen will be recognized as part of Senior Day celebrations.
