Graduate pitcher Abby Dunning threw a no-hitter for the Clemson Tigers in their 1-0 victory over Georgia Tech on March 7. Sophomore catcher Corri Hicks hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win and clinch the series for Clemson.
The game was marked by strong pitching from both teams, with neither side allowing a hit through the first three innings. Dunning faced 24 batters, threw 99 pitches, and struck out four in her complete-game performance. This achievement marks Clemson’s eighth-ever no-hitter and its eighth shutout of the season. Dunning is now 5-2 on the year and has recorded her second solo shutout of the season.
At the plate, Hicks delivered her fourth home run as a Tiger, sending a 2-0 pitch over left field at a velocity of 74 miles per hour to end the game. The only other hit for Clemson came from shortstop Kiley Channell in the fourth inning after Georgia Tech made a pitching change.
Georgia Tech managed to get three runners on base but left them stranded as Dunning and the Clemson defense held firm throughout. The Yellow Jackets used three pitchers during the game but were unable to break through against Dunning’s performance.
Clemson improved its record to 16-7 overall and 2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Georgia Tech fell to 15-10 (3-2 ACC). The Tigers will aim for a series sweep when they face Georgia Tech again on Sunday, March 8, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. on ACC Network.
