Cost of college went up for all students at Clemson University

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.7 percent for 2018-19 at Clemson University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

South Carolina residents paid $15,374 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $258 more than the $15,116 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 141.5 percent more than residents this year, or $37,128. Their price tag grew 3 percent from $36,058 in 2017-18.

About 60 percent of the school's undergraduate population are South Carolina residents. About 39 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 93 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,236 students received grants or scholarships totaling $34.6 million and 1,476 students took out student loans totaling more than $12.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (24,951), 15,037 students used grants or scholarships totaling $128.6 million, and 7,824 students took out $53.1 million in federal student loans.
