Pickens County issued the following announcement on September 2.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. Pickens County has scheduled a free online presentation of Talk Saves Lives through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention South Carolina Chapter on Wednesday, September 15th at 12:00 PM. To attend, please register at the following link: https://tslpickens.attendease.com/. A Zoom link will be sent 1-2 days prior to the presentation.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in South Carolina, and Pickens County’s suicide death rate per 100,000 population is one of the highest in the state. There is never a single reason someone attempts or dies by suicide. There are many factors that can create a sense of despair in anyone. Knowing the common risk factors and how to spot the warning signs in others can help us keep our family, friends, co-workers, others in the community, and ourselves safe. If you would like to learn more about suicide prevention, please register for this Talk Saves Lives presentation, grab some lunch on Wednesday, September 15th and log on to join the effort to prevent suicides in Pickens County.
