Murphy0

Anderson University issued the following announcement on October 7.

Dr. Howard Murphy and Erin Fisher, both of the Anderson University School of Public Service and Administration (SPSA), played key roles in developing the second edition of a textbook about effective emergency management.

The book, titled Principles of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), was released by Routledge Press September 20, 2021.

Dr. Murphy, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Homeland Security and Emergency Services degree programs, served as co-editor, along with Dr. Michael Fagel of Illinois Institute of Technology and Rick Mathews of State University of New York-Albany. Murphy also authored two chapters and served as co-author for three other chapters.

Fisher, who serves SPSA as Academic Success Advisor, served as assembly editor for the textbook. Dr. Murphy refers to Fisher as “cat herder,” as she has not only reviewed the content provided by more than 20 contributors, but has also managed the chapter assignments and deadlines.

Principles of Emergency Management and Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) is a 24-chapter textbook that serves as a guide for successful emergency management operations. The textbook also provides essential knowledge needed at the nexus of emergency management, emergency response, interagency coordination and critical infrastructure operations.

Contributions from leading experts provide contemporary knowledge and best practices learned through lived experience. Collectively, the book’s chapters serve as a vital training guide for emergency management and emergency services students and leaders at both a theoretical and practical level, providing detailed guidance on handling each phase and type of emergency.

The editors dedicate this book to their families, as well as to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the benefit of our nation and communities.
