Business Student to Attend EDGE Conference

18

Matthew Mahaffey, a student in the Anderson University College of Business, received a CSCMP (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) EDGE Conference Student Scholarship from the South Carolina Roundtable.

Mahaffey, a rising senior majoring in supply chain management, looks to his grandfather, who was an industrial engineer, for sparking his interest in supply chain. Having received his Lean Six Sigma Green Belt last summer, he’s looking for opportunities to grow and develop as a supply chain professional. Mahaffey is interested in how the supply chain functions of sourcing and procurement affect profit margins in industries.

“I like going with the process flow from one point all the way to the end of it,” said Mahaffey.

Mahaffey looks forward to learning as much as he can and making connections at the conference in Nashville in September 2022.

“I’m going to be assisting in the setup and takedown of all the events and to listen and learn. It will be good to network with some people,” Mahaffey said. “I’m excited mostly for the chance to get to network with some fellow professionals and to take advantage of the learning opportunities this is presenting.”

Mahaffey, along with a student from another institution, has been chosen to represent supply chain management students from the state of South Carolina at the Annual International CSCMP conference this year in Nashville, Tennessee. He has won an all-expense paid trip to the conference and will be part of the Future Leaders Program (FLP).

The FLP is prestigious and well-known in supply chain circles around the world. The program will host 40 students from around the world and AU will be represented among these top students.

Kaci Minshall, another Anderson University student, has been selected as the runner-up and will take the spot of one of these students should they not be able to attend for any reason.

“AU’s supply chain program is continually represented by terrific students and gaining notoriety not only in South Carolina, but around the world,” said Dr. Kimberly Whitehead, professor of business. Another Anderson faculty member, Dr. John Frazier serves on the CSCMP board for South Carolina.
