The Winter 2022 edition of Synthesis, the award-winning online magazine produced by students in the Anderson University College of Arts and Sciences, is now available.

The Winter Synthesis highlights new degree programs in environmental science, neuroscience, and app and game development. The magazine also explores innovative ways students are learning while positively impacting their community and beyond.

Readers of this issue will travel along with a team of students to the Florida Keys as they kayak through mangrove forests and go snorkeling in crystal clear waters. Also, environmental science majors are immersing themselves quite literally in the outdoors as they explore the diversity of flora and fauna.

And there’s a course that’s “all the buzz” around campus as students explore beekeeping’s critically important role in the environment with beehives located at Rocky River Nature Park on the Anderson University campus. The class is a collaboration with the Anderson County Beekeepers Association and is offered to the public.

Also featured are stories about College of Arts and Sciences students giving back to the community, whether helping the local Meals on Wheels organization communicate effectively with its army of volunteers or helping area businesses and organizations harness the power of podcasting, a fast-growing platform that attracts millions of listeners.

Another feature explores new technology pairing microscopes with iPads and other digital devices to enhance hands-on experiences for students doing biological research, helping them go beyond real-time analysis limited to what’s seen directly through the microscope’s lens.

Ever wonder how the apps we use and games we play are created? There’s an article that explores Anderson University’s new degree program that dives into programming and coding skills to prepare students for high-paying app and game development jobs.

Also featured are alumni Bryce and Kamryn Goodwin, two political science graduates who met at Anderson University. As a married couple, they are living in Virginia and are currently pursuing law degrees.

Faculty features include English Professor Katherine Wyma’s use of comic book superheroes as a springboard to explore current events, societal trends and contemporary problems.

These and other stories can be found in the Winter 2022 Synthesis, produced by students in the Department of Communication’s Editing and Layout course, taught by Professor Robert Reeves.
